Job Purpose
The primary purpose of the Picker role is to accurately pick, prepare and stage stock in the warehouse to ensure orders are completed correctly, efficiently and on time. The successful candidate will be responsible for product integrity, safe handling, and following warehouse procedures to maintain a smooth workflow.
Key goals include:
- Accurate and stock-friendly picking and loading
- Proper handling of products and correct identification
- Accurate marking and checking of picked pallets
- Completion of administrative documents such as picking slips, checklists and replenishment forms
- Safe and effective use of warehouse equipment and picking devices
- Ensuring properly palletised stock
- Following instructions from the Supervisor at all times
Key Responsibilities
1. Housekeeping
A clean work environment is essential in any warehouse. The Picker will:
- Maintain high housekeeping standards
- Ensure all cleaning tools are cared for and correctly stored
- Keep stacking neat, square and secure
- Ensure walkways and work areas remain tidy
- Remove pallets and waste from pick levels and cold environments
2. Assist with Stock Count Preparation
Supporting accurate stock management includes:
- Preparing the warehouse for regular and full stock counts
- Ensuring damaged stock is isolated and labelled
- Allowing easy access to products for counting
- Completing daily stock counts as required
- Reporting problem stock to the Warehouse Shift Controller
3. Timekeeping
Reliability forms part of professional warehouse operations. Duties include:
- Clocking in and out at the correct times
- Keeping overtime minimal
- Reporting late arrivals
4. Occupational Health and Safety Compliance
Safety is a core value. The Picker must:
- Follow all health and safety regulations
- Maintain safe work practices
- Support accident prevention and correct fire-safety behaviour
5. Good Handling Practices
To maintain product quality, the Picker must:
- Ensure freezer and loading doors are kept closed
- Maintain a glass-free environment
- Keep all food-safe zones free from cups, bottles or glass items
6. Teamwork and Self-Management
A positive mindset and strong work ethic are essential. This includes:
- Taking ownership of tasks and deadlines
- Communicating risks or delays early
- Demonstrating initiative and supporting team goals
- Practising good interpersonal behaviour and promoting company values
Internal and External Relationships
The Picker will engage primarily with:
- Warehouse teams
- Supervisors and management

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Minimum Qualification
- Grade 12 / Matric

- Flexibility with working hours

- Physically fit and able to handle manual tasks
